Probably the best pair of sneakers/driving shoes I have ever owned at 66 years of age. These shoes are a statement, the colors, the styling and of course the unique look of the laces. I haven't worn them yet without someone asking me where they can find them. I have a second pair just because they are perfect for long and fast drives and of course at the bar later when sharing your high-speed turn 10 stories with your buddies! A truly wicked pair of sneakers.

So since about 2006, I have been able to get the same shoes that have been able to do it all. Dress up-ish, dress down, wear all day and be comfortable, and still be comfortable to drive. Then that company went out of business for a minute and came back and gone was the model of shoe I had been able to purchase for the better part of a decade and half. As I started to run out of my overstocks and started trying their new shoes I knew it was going to be time to look for a replacement for the prototipos I had become very used to. So following the hand written note also found in my shoe box, let's break down these Men's GrandPrix Sneaker in Corsa Rosso, size 45: Style: Always been a function over form first kind of guy so it's a bonus when the function works well and they look cool. I like the fact that you can change it up with a the extra set of laces sent. I probably wouldn't change a thing here. Fit/Comfort: I have a wide foot and with dealing with Piloti shoes as long as I have, I went a half size up from my normal 11.5/44 to a 45. Glad I did, that the shoe is narrow, my wide feet would have not been happy campers. Another note is the insole is relatively flat. Not only are my feet kind of wide, I have a pretty high arch too. Nothing some decent inserts can't fix and having the extra half size up means there is more than ample space. Walking in these shoes is pretty comfortable too, I'll touch more on that in the later section. Driving in these shoes is mostly comfortable. The heel is rolled and not pointed helping with calf/achilles fatigue over long hauls and the counter is supportive without pushing on your achilles. What the shoe lacks in comfort is the collar and the counter both could use some more padding. An extreme example of collar padding is literally any pair of skateboarding shoes, not saying these shoes should have THAT much but some more would make this shoe damn near perfect. Construction: This is going to be one of those "time will tell" kind of things. It seems well put together with some mild rubber flashing I trimmed off the outer sole. It didn't bother me none, but I could see some people losing their minds over something so small at this price point. I've worn them twice. I have a manual transmission car that I will wear these shoes whenever I plan on driving it that day and will walk everywhere else through out the day in them. I know some people get these types of shoes and where them like once in a while or with certain outfits. If it is above 40ºF and not raining, I will wear these, so probably most days. I'll be happy to get a year out of them. Sole: You would think a driver focused shoe company would actually see if the rubber they put on the bottom of their driver focused shoe slips off the rubber used on pedals. Every new pair of Piloti shoes I've tried has the issue of slipping off the brake pedal or gas pedal at one point or another. Not these, they're perfect. Bonus to the sole is they're not super thin so walking around in normal everyday life doesn't suck. There are so many racing shoes out there if you want thin soled, feel the pores of the aluminum with your feet race shoes. What if a fat guy wants to walk around and have a set of shoes where driving and heel-toe shifting was thought about too? Thank you for not making a paper-thin sole. Value: This will be up in the air until I see how fast I wear these out. I am self admittedly hard on shoes, but if they last a year, I'll keep buying them. That tells me I think they're worth the money from that perspective. If they don't hold up I'd be disappointed and probably save them as more of a dress shoe than a daily driver but still think they make one hell of a dress shoe that isn't typical Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars but the rating system didn't let me choose that so I'm saying it here. A great looking shoe that hopefully tows the line between a regular sneaker and a driving shoe. Takes a ding on score because of collar padding and that's it.
